Helping Your Children See the Funny Side of Life
Someone in life will tell you that you should look on the bright or funny side of things. This is probably some of the best advice you can get. It is impossible to know exactly what life will bring and what it will surprise you with. Most of us will face some real difficulties in life, and for some of us those difficulties will simply be too much for us. If we can look on the funny side of life these problems don’t seem so bad. They fade away and feel like memories or bad dreams. It is amazing what a little positive thinking can do for a person in a bad spot. Even if the worst of all possible nightmares were to become true, you would still be able to laugh at your situation. Given that this ability is so important to life, what can you do to help your children see the funny side of life? Should you force them to laugh when things go wrong? Certainly not. However, there are some methods you can employ to help them develop this very important ability.
First, you need to laugh in the face of adversity if you expect your children to do the same. A child only learns to do what their parents do. If you do not look at the funny side of life your children will not either. Overly serious parents tend to lead to overly serious children. When something goes wrong and you can think only of how horrible things are, your children will also think this way. Attitudes pass from generation to generation and are difficult to change. However, if you can laugh when things are tough your children will develop this reflex.
Second, try to help your children feel safe and secure. It will be hard for kids, especially the younger ones, to look on the bright side of things if they never feel secure. When things are chaotic for a child they will probably feel much worse anxiety than an adult. Reassure your children and make sure that they know that everything is okay in your family.
Third, help your children find good things to laugh at when they are down. It is difficult to look at the bright side of life if you don’t have some practice. If children know what to look for when things are down it will make it that much easier to find the funny side of life. A few concrete practices could help with this situation. For example, you could watch a favorite funny movie with your children when they are depressed or down. You can go out to dinner or invite their friends over. Anything that will help them to gain a fresh perspective is a good idea.
Finally, point out the good things in your childrens life. Point out why they are so lucky or fortunate. Things to mention might be their home, food, care, and so forth. Many kids just don’t know how lucky they are to have caring parents and food to eat. While this might seem preachy, when a child is reminded at the right moment it can help to open their eyes.
There are many different techniques you can use to help your children see the funny side of life. No single technique may be better than another. Be creative and find out what helps your children as the unique individuals they are. With some experimentation and with the application of some tried and true techniques, you will be able to help your kids laugh in the face of adversity.

Games That Encourage A Sense of Humor
Most people love to laugh. We know that it helps our spirits and it provides a good relief from the anxieties of life. Without laughter life would probably seem helpless if not impossible. How would we deal with all the absurdity and difficulty without laughter? A good sense of humor is one of the central keys to living a healthy life–at least mentally. With a good sense of humor you can roll with the punches and see that life is not so bad even if it is hard. Some people might say that this is an excuse for not taking life seriously, but having a good sense of humor does not mean that a person does not take life seriously. Sometimes the best way to take life seriously is to have some fun with it so that it doesn’t get you down. If you take it too seriously you might end up not being able to deal with it. Because we know that a good sense of humor is very important in life, it is probably a good idea to encourage this sense in our children. While most children have a good sense of humor, some of them are more serious than others. A child’s personality is a difficult thing to change, and you probably should not try to change it too much. Children are wonderful because of their different personalities. This does not mean, however, that you cannot encourage certain parts of a child’s personality. All children will have some sort of sense of humor, you simply have to find it and help it to grow.
But how can someone encourage a child’s sense of humor? What can be done? The process need not be overly complicated. There are several methods that can be used to encourage a child’s sense of humor, and a great one is through games.
Most children and adults love games, whether they be sporting events or board games. Naturally some games are too complicated for children. These sorts of games need to be avoided because they only tend to make children bored. This is the complete opposite of what a game should do for someone, and especially a child.
When you choose games to encourage your child’s sense of humor make sure that they will be entertaining and engaging. A good game is one that keeps the child laughing constantly. The other thing the game needs to do is encourage the child to think in humorous ways. A silly word game is a good example. The value of this type of game is that it prompts the child to start thinking of funny things. If the child plays the game regularly it will help them to develop a sense of humor.
The best way to find a good game that will do all of these things is through experimentation. Try different types of games. Not all children will respond in the same way to the same games. It will vary some by personality and this is something that you will need to pay attention to. Once you have found the right games for your children it will be important to encourage them to play. This can be partly done by finding them friends who enjoy the same games. A big group of kids playing together can really get the laughter going end encourage your child to be creative and to start thinking in a humorous way.
